- Pell City’s Jessica Cook is described by her coach as an agressive, skilled, and humble soccer player.
With three goals and an assist in two varsity games, Jessica Cook’s senior soccer season at Pell City is off to a good start.
And it’s shaping up to be a good prelude to her first year with the University of Montevallo women’s team. She signed her intent to play for the Falcons earlier this month.
After considering Columbus State and the University of Alabama at Huntsville, she chose Montevallo because “it’s close to home, and it’s like a small town where I’m from. I can go in and get playing time there right off.”
Coach Jeff Samoranski describes the midfielder as a natural leader. “She’s an aggressive, forward-thinking player with a lot of versatility and different skill sets. She can play anywhere. Although she’s one of the leaders on our soccer team here at the high school, she’s humble, and that will help her very much in transitioning to playing at the collegiate level.”
Miss Cook said that she enjoys both the teamwork and the physical challenge of soccer. “I like to run, and there’s a lot of running in it, but it’s not just a one-person sport. The whole team has to work together to win. You can’t be a ball hog or think it’s all about you. In order to succeed, you have to be a team player.”
The daughter of Connie and Dexter Cook, she plans to study kinesiology at Montevallo.
