Demarcus Tremble rushed for 172 yards and three touchdowns last Friday, boosting the Springville Tigers to a 35-7 Homecoming win against Locust Fork as he crossed the 1,000-yard mark for the season.
“It felt great,” the senior said after reaching the goal for the first time in his high school career. “It was a lot of hard work, and it’s all because of my linemen. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have reached that goal.”
Tremble’s effort last week gave him 1,001 yards for the season, passing the mark after missing two games earlier in the season after dislocating his elbow while scoring a touchdown against Pinson. He underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a chipped bone that has hampered wrist movement, meaning that he’ll have to sit out the Tigers’ season-ender at Arab this Friday.
“He wanted to play, but he really needed to get in there and get (the surgery) done,” Springville coach Keith Maple said.
Tremble’s three touchdowns all came in the fourth quarter against Locust Fork, supplemented by two scoring passes from Brandon Gilliland to Jacob Gibson and E.J. Woody. Charlie Mueler made all five PATs.
After two lackluster quarters, Springville racked up more than 300 yards of total offense in the second half. Gilliland completed 15 of 22 passes for 198 yards, with Woody catching eight of them for 190 yards.
