Austin Martin threw for 347 yards and four touchdowns in his first start at quarterback for Pell City as Blake Fuller set a school record for pass receptions, but it still wasn’t enough to propel the Panthers over region opponent Austin last week.
Now 3-6, the Panthers host Etowah for Senior Night and their season-ender. Pre-game ceremonies including recognition of senior football players, cheerleaders and band members will begin about 6:40 p.m.
Pell City and Etowah (6-3) haven’t met since 2003, coach Jay Brown said, when the Panthers won, 28-0.
The efforts of Martin and Fuller accounted for much of Pell City’s 500 yards of total offense against Austin. Fuller’s 10 catches for 282 yards and two touchdowns is a school record for most receiving yards in a single game, Brown said.
Senior Terez Elston added 104 rushing yards.
The Panthers’ defense was led by Corey Mitchell, who made 11 tackles, followed by Hayden Beardsley with nine and Skylar Smith with eight. Smith now has 90 tackles for the season, including 11 for losses of yards.
