With the night of tricks and treats just around the corner, the Pell City Police Department reminds families to keep their little ghosts and goblins safe on the streets this Halloween.
Law enforcement will be out in full force for the holiday, parents are encouraged to take precautions to keep their children safe and scaring throughout the evening.
* Go only to well-lit houses and remain on the porches. Never enter a residence for the promise of treats.
* Travel in groups with adult supervision
* Bring treats home so parents can inspect them before consumption. Treats should be examined under sufficient light by an adult for signs of tampering with wrappers. Fruit should be washed and cut before eating, and anything unwrapped should be discarded. Notify the police of any suspicious treats.
* Be courteous and respectful of other people’s property. Damaging or defacing property will not be tolerated and is illegal.
* Use flashlights and use sidewalks whenever possible. Avoid crossing yards or driveways.
* Trick-or-treat on one side of the street at a time
* Cross streets at the corner, use crosswalks when possible, and do not cross between parked cars.
* Wear bright, reflective and flame-retardant clothing and avoid tripping by not wearing long, baggy or loose costumes.
* Consider using face paint instead of masks so your vision is not obstructed. If your child wears a mask, make sure it fits securely, provides adequate ventilation and has eye holes large enough to allow full vision.
* Clear porches, lawns and sidewalks in preparation for trick-or-treaters
* Leave outside porch lights on so children will know that it’s OK to visit while trick-or-treating.
