- Between 50 and 75 well-wishers were on hand recently to welcome the newest member of the Friendship fire brigade — a 2010 International fire engine.
Between 50 and 75 local residents and supporters stopped by the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department Sept. 18 to welcome the newest member of the brigade — a 2010 International fire engine.
Fire Chief Steve Walker described the truck as a “fast attack” vehicle, which will seat the first two volunteers to arrive at the fire hall, allowing a quicker response time to the scene of a fire.
“We’re very proud of this truck,” Walker said. “It’s like a dream come true for us.”
The new engine joins a 2005 model fire engine, which seats five firefighters.
Together, Walker hopes the new addition will help the department respond more quickly to the 650 homes covered by the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department.
“We’re really proactive on lowering home insurance rates, and helping on the front side instead of getting there and just saving the chimney,” Walker said.
