Five people were arrested Sunday afternoon as part of a raid conducted by State Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) agents and the Pell City Police Narcotics Unit.  The raid was based on numerous complaints from citizens and neighbors about illegal alcohol sales near the Duran South Middle School area.  ABC agents seized three truckloads of beer and whiskey and an undisclosed amount of currency from two homes near the school.

Both Willie “Boots” Robinson, 53, Pell City and James Ross Gover, 53, of Pell City, were charged with Possession of Alcohol with Intent to Resale and given a $2,000 bond each.

James Robert Brown of Pell City was arrested and released for Purchasing Alcohol on Sunday. Two other persons were arrested on unrelated charges.

There were three liters of whiskey, 212 beers, 18 loose cigarettes and $110  recovered at the Robinson residence.

Gover’s residence yielded 785 beers, 34 pints of whiskey and $351 in cash.

“I personally want to thank the ABC Board and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and our officers for their help. We put an end to an ongoing problem,” Pell City Narcotics Officer Richard Woods said.
