Beginning this morning, Cook Springs Road (Exit 152) has been closed between the interstate ramps to prepare for the bridge’s removal. This portion of the road is scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m., Monday, Oct. 11. I-20 ramps at Exit 152 will remain open.
Additionally, a rolling roadblock by Alabama state troopers will slow I-20 traffic in both directions for an estimated 20 minutes on Saturday, Oct. 9, beginning at 10 a.m., to remove the old bridge at Exit 152.
Areduced speed limit of 45 mph is in effect throughout the work zone. Motorists may want to consider using alternate routes and adjusting arrival/departure times. Motorists should observe work-zone speed limits and other work-zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. State troopers will control traffic and strictly enforce speed limits.
This work is part of the ALDOT’s Progress 20 project to widen the last four-lane segment of I-20 in St. Clair County. The scheduled completion date on the project is October 1, 2012.
The Progress 20 website and toll-free project update information line, along with posters, brochures and signage, are part of the Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress on Alabama Roadways campaign to keep travelers informed of the progress being made to improve the state’s interstates.
