Quality service from the ground up

- Drew Dorough (center) spent one day this summer helping Matt and Wilson Fletcher (left, right) with their installation of plants around the News-Aegis office.
Matt Fletcher, owner-operator of Fletch’s Service Group, remembers well the most difficult job he did during his 12 years of lawn maintenance.
It was a 100-year-old house that had huge boulders with mortar mix set at its foundation. Before the crew put in new landscaping, they had to jack the house up, remove the boulders and mortar and then put in a new block foundation.
That kind of dedication to getting the job done right is something that Fletcher takes pride in.
Fletcher is a 1997 Pell City High graduate who grew up in Pine Harbor and played baseball and football. His two crews work the St. Clair County, Talladega and Birmingham areas, and he knows the lay of the land.
He remembers well when PCHS stepped up to a 6A level school and how it changed the city and its approach to sports. In his business he works to change the approach of someone’s lawn, whether it be them not pulling hoses across their yard by installing sprinklers or providing a beautiful and functional landscape design.
Being an entrepreneur has been a dream of Fletcher’s for many years and through his business it allows him to realize his dream. “I enjoy working outside. I can’t stand being in an office at a computer all day.”
His company specializes in water features for yard landscaping and the company runs the gambit when it comes to providing whatever a customer wants.
For someone who wants their yard looking right for years to come, Fletch’s Service Group can help with planning and installing anything from landscaping to irrigation. “I can work with people to group plants based on when they bloom, if they are evergreen or not, and then get their yard looking good and not like every other house on the block,” Fletcher said.
The family owned and operated business is not your average lawn care in a truck maintenance company. “The biggest thing is that I grew up here and I’m dedicated to working in my hometown and the area,” Fletcher said. “Based on the way the economy is and the way people want to save money, we provide plants to fit budget and water needs. We have competitive prices due to the economy. We provide better quality at a better price.”
Eye for design: “We provide anything to fit while adding balance with budget, color and convenience or access to part of your yard,” Fletcher said. Putting in pavers and stone walkways can add to a yard’s overall look, he said.
Placing walking paths in the middle of a yard were someone might have a large tree with a swing for their kids or grandkids to play on is a way the Fletch’s Service Group can incorporate design with functionability.
“Convenience and access are huge for customers. If I can relay to them my ideas of what I can do for them based on what they have and what they want: that’s what we’re here for,” Fletcher said.
