Moody population reaches new levels

According to unverified census data, Moody has an estimated population of 13,859, which will put them in a new population class. The mayor and council said they might need to draw up new districts because of the increase.
“I don’t think you’d want more than five districts,” Mayor Joe Lee said, “and you don’t want an even number.”
The census numbers will not be confirmed until next year, but the mayor and council said they should go ahead and begin researching plans.
“It is what it is,” Lee said. “The growth determines what goes where.”
The council will meet several nights to discuss details about Alabama Auto Auction coming back to town. Alabama Auto Auction was formerly located in Moody, but moved to Leeds, and now Leeds has annexed the auction. Moody will make $5 a car, up to $200,000, sold at the auction.
“It’s going to be great to have Alabama Auto Auction back in our town,” Lee said.
Bob Clem spoke to the mayor and council about clearing and burning debris at the trailer park property. He said burning materials, with or without a permit, can be harmful to people with breathing problems and suggested the council stop all burnings. Lee said the council would discuss the matter.
The council approved:
* the recommendation of the city engineer, Frank Spence, to accept the streets in Windsor Park subdivision upon the completion of the placement of two fence posts, which had to be 6” above the spillway, along with a gauge tension wire installed at the bottom of the new fence to prevent children and animals from entering the detention pond;
* removing the discussion about the current wrecker ordinance in Moody from Monday’s agenda;
* annexing Real Property into the city owned by Kings Properties LLC, located off of AE Moore Drive, which was followed by audience applause;
* adding an item to mail out the fire dues and printing, which will not exceed $2,000, to the agenda;
* $638.12 for a repeater repair for a radio system;
* $380.76 for tires for Vehicle 321;
* $1,300 for two ballistic vests for Lt. Daniel Praytor and Officer George Wiggin. $650 of which will be refunded after grant approval.
