Mrs. Elizabeth Davis Lowe, 98, of Ragland passed away Monday, February 8, 2010 in Gadsden.
Mrs. Lowe was a lifelong resident of Ragland. She was retired after 45 years of teaching. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Lowe.
Mrs. Lowe was a devoted Christian and was respected and loved by all of us who knew her. She was my late mother’s, Orene Black’s close friend. And she was a friend to us siblings (“Cliff”, Ginny, Jalta, Kay and I, too). She taught “Cliff” and Ginny at Ragland High School. My mother and Mrs. Lowe kept in touch with each other all the years of my mother’s life. I have some letters that Mrs. Lowe wrote to my mother.
Mrs. Lowe made sure my mother and her family received a written invitation to the annual Davis Family Reunion, which was held in Ragland each year until it was discontinued. My mother and I attended several of the reunions. We did not know this until later years but we are/were distantly kin to the Davis’s. Several generations back a Davis married a Black. I have some of that information in my genealogy files.
Mrs. Lowe was not only so dear to our family but also to many people in Ragland and the surrounding communities. She will be greatly missed by all of us who knew and loved her.
Survivors are her nieces, Joan (Davis) and Jack Ford, and Cathy Davis, nephews, Fabery (Carol) Davis III, Stuart (Ruth) Davis and Michael Davis.
Burial was in Ragland United Methodist Cemetery.
Belated happy birthday to my friend from Coal City School days, Mary Downey Henderson, February 16! And happy birthday to Bobby Kerr, February 19 and to my young friend, Amanda Squires Treadwell, February 20!
Congratulations and happy anniversary to my young friends, Jason and Tabitha Dailey Hanner who celebrate today, February 18!
Our sincere prayers and condolences are with the family of Sarah Annette Wadsworth Ege, 76, of Easonville who passed away February 11, 2010. Annette is survived by one daughter, Connie Ann Ege, one sister, Barbra Franklin and grandchildren, Jennifer Ege (Jacob) Fountain and Christopher Thomas Ege.
Annette’s Parents, Preston and Henrynetta Abbott Wadsworth preceded her in death. Also her brother, Robert “Bob” Wadsworth preceded her in death.
Annette was born and raised in Easonville and attended Easonville School through the ninth grade and then transferred to Pell City High School where she graduated in May, 1952.
She was my high school classmate and friend. Jo Ann Fraim Winnette, Mary Bryant Isbell and her husband, Jack, Jr., Myrtha McKnight Roe and I, Mona Black Scott who were her classmates at Pell City High School (with the exception of Mary’s husband, Jack) attended Annette’s funeral service which was held at the chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home Saturday, February 13, 2010.
Annette was a Christian. She was of the Methodist faith. She was a very likable person with her warm smile and gentle ways. All of us who knew her loved her dearly. We will miss her greatly.
Interment was in Valley Hill Memorial Cemetery.
