Mt. Moriah Baptist Church will have our regular fifth Sunday Night Singing January 31 at 7:00. The guest singers will be “New Mercy” from Northport, Alabama. They were one of the guest groups who were at the Wattsville Freewill Baptist Church for their New Year’s Eve Service.

The supper and fellowship will precede the singing at 5:30 p.m. Please bring dishes of food and drinks to share and join the church family at that hour and stay for the singing, which immediately follows.

Reverend Zane Smith, pastor, Steve Latta, Singing Chairman and the church family welcome everyone to attend.

Garland and Juanita Jackson Davis were honored by their immediate family members, son, Jeffrey Davis and daughter-in-law, Wanda, the widow of their son, Donald and their two granddaughters Jayla and Jana Davis, with a Golden Anniversary Celebration Friday evening, January 8, 2010. Celebrations in Pell City was the scene of the gala occasion.

It was a very lovely occasion for a lovely couple and their family. Their son, Jeffery, was the Master of Ceremonies. A video was shown of heir fifty years of married life. All the guests enjoyed that so much.

Garland and Juanita’s son, Donald, passed away in the fall of 2001. Since both of them are devoted Christians, they have been very courageous in coping with Donald’s passing away.

Despite the extremely cold weather, a great host f family, kin and friends turned out for the special occasion.

Garland and Juanita are very active members of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Garland is a deacon and currently serves as the Sunday School Director. Juanita is assistant Choir Director, Assistant Director of the congregational singing, a soloist and she is Director of the Nursery.

They have done (and continue to do) many ministries for people in need. They continually visit people who are sick at home or in a hospital. They always go and minister to families who are bereaved. They carry food to people who need it, mow people’s lawns and numerous ministries. Both of them have had (and continue to have) a great spiritual impact on many person’s lives that they don’t even know about. I’m sure I can make this statement on behalf of all the people of Mt. Moriah Church and the community that we greatly appreciate Garland and Juanita and that we dearly love them.

Garland and Juanita were both born and reared in the Eden-Pell City area. They are graduates of Pell City High School. Garland’s parents are the late Clarence and Lillie Mae Davis and Juanita’s parents are the late Vester and Anna Jackson.

Garland and Juanita’s fiftieth anniversary was January 5, 2010.

Garland is an active member of the Gideon’s and has done a great ministry speaking to churches about the Gideon’s organization and distributing Bibles.

I have some of my sister’s Kay Black Buckner’s books, “Glorious Gleanings From The Fields of Life”, a book primarily written for young people, on hand. She based her story on the book of Ruth in the bible. Youth Directors could use the book as a guideline to teach your young people. The price of the book is $10.00 if you come to my home and pick it up or if I mail it to you, the price id $12.00. If I should not be available to take your call, please leave me your phone number and I will return your call.
