The Moody Junior High girls’ basketball team played Briarwood on Monday. Moody jumped out to an early first quarter lead as they tried to redeem themselves from a loss to Briarwood earlier in the season.

After one quarter Moody led 14-7. The second quarter was much like the first as Moody outscored the Lions 10-7 for a 24-14 halftime lead. Briarwood took the third period 8-7 and the teams swapped baskets in the fourth quarter with 8 points apiece. Moody got the win and leading the way for the Lady Devils were Alexus Martin with 14 points, Chelsea Goodwin with 13 points, Jordan Woody with nine points and Micaela Robinson with three points.

The Moody boys’ basketball team faced a much-improved Briarwood team. The first game was all Moody but Briarwood came ready to play. Moody jumped out to an early 11-4 lead but Briarwood fought back to take the second period 9-5. Moody led at the half, 16-13.

Moody won the third period by outscoring the Lions 12-7 and extended the lead to 28-20. Briarwood made a move in the fourth period but it was too little, too late.  Briarwood won the quarter 16-12, but the Blue Devils took the game by a score of 40-36. Leading the way for the Blue Devils were Josh Morgan with 11 points, Dee Williams with eight points, Issac Vacheresse with eight points, Michael Barron with four points, Jake Crain with three points, DeVontae Vandergrift with three points and Andrew Murray with three points.

On Tuesday Moody hosted the Steele Raiders. In the girls’ game the Raiders kept it tight with the Blue Devils winning the first period 10-6. Moody took the second period 13-5 for a 23-11 lead.

Moody won the third period 4-0 and the fourth period 5-0. “I was proud of the way the girls played tonight,” Moody coach Terry Etheredge said. “We did not allow a single point in the second half. I don’t think I’ve had a team do that before.” The win gives the Lady Devils five in a row and a 9-7 record overall.

The Moody boys’ team also played Steele on Tuesday. Moody jumped out early and often in the first half taking a 50-15 lead into halftime, scoring 25 points in each quarter. Moody won the third period 16-9 and the fourth period 9-8 to pick up 75-32 win. The win gave the Blue Devils a 12-1 record. “We knew we were the bigger, faster team and we did what we were supposed to do. Everyone played and the defense was very good,” Terry Etheredge said. “Hats off to the Steele coach, his guys never quit and their Owens is a really good player. He scored 16 points.”

Leading the way for the Devils were  Dee Williams with ten points, Josh Morgan with nine points, Issac Vacheresse with eight points, Jake Crain with eight points, Andrew Murray with six points, Michael Barron with six points, TeDarrius Campbell with six points, KaJuan Crawford with five points and DeVontae Vandergrift with four points.
