The Pell City Civitan’s Toys for Children campaign is underway after helping over 750 children and their families last year. The Civitan Club took over Toys for Children and the Float Yer Boat Regatta from the Pell City Parks and Recreation Department starting this year.

The Toys for Children program provides toys and clothing for children in need during the Christmas holiday.

Civitan member and Toys for Children chairwoman Jacque Owen said she expects they will have even more applicants this year.

We are accepting applications now through November 25. Applications can be picked up at the Community Action building behind the City Hall, Owen said. Toys will be distributed Wednesday, December 16, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Community Center on 19th Street. Applications are accepted up to the age of 14 years old.

Last year the Toys for Children program raised over $20,000 and spent around $18,000.

The Civitan Club is a charitable organization and all donations are tax deductible. Donations of new toy items can be dropped off at Fields Gossett Realty in Pell City, the Pell City Civic Center, or CheckMate on Highway 231.

The Pell City Civitan Club was newly formed earlier this year. The Float Yer Boat Regatta, held in the summer, serves as a fundraiser for the Toys for Children program.

The Civitan’s mission statement is to build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities.
