It will be a post-season cat fight Friday as the Springville Tigers take on the Fairfield Prep Tigers in an away game.
“They’re a great team. Coach [Jim] Vakakes does a great job. They’re a very athletic team. You know they kind of remind us of Erwin here in our region in that they throw and run well.”
Maple said that the Tigers area more than ready to take up the challenge.
“We’ve got to play great defense and put some scores in the end zone,” he said.
When asked about how his players feel about the game he said, “They’re excited. This has been two years straight of getting into the playoffs. It’s paid off for them and we are real proud of their accomplishments. But, we’re just going to take it one game at a time. Their moral is great and their mindset has been great from the last few games.”
He said that the on-field preparations have been going well. “We had three real good days of practice,” Maple said.
He continued, “We had about an hour and a half Friday after our [Ashville] game and about a 58 minute practice Sunday. We’re actually ahead of schedule. We’re just excited and we know we need to execute touchdowns and minimize our mistakes and it’s already hard to travel for the guys. But out guys have done that five times already this year.”
